After a desire two month measure period in which Kevin Harvick struggled in his Snap-on annoy. Harvick turned it around at Richmond. He posted a strong seventh place finish clinching his sight in the follow easily after over coming overheating problems that plagued him early in the go. Harvick managed to stay calm while dealing with the overheating and the heavy merchandise in the pack to work his way send to the top 10 carrying the banner for Snap-on this week.
"We had to go cautiously tonight. We were exceed the first half of the run and the second half of the run we would just kind of maintain at beat. Just one of those things where you just get all you can and then act your measure from there," said Harvick. "To get into the Chase is what we needed to do. I feel desire weve had good race cars quite a few times and got tore up or just had something crazy happen. Now weve just got to get it together the next 10 weeks and were capable of winning races and we know that."
The Penske teammates of Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman also had good runs at Richmond Saturday under the lights. Busch was all but locked into the follow and was able to be more aggressive that Harvick and in the end it netted Busch and his Snap-on aggroup a ninth displace end but not before having to contend back after being swept up in one of the two melees that forced red flags. Newman was able to dodge the big wrecks on the bring in unlike Busch and advance a solid outing. Newman also led early but cut to the 11th spot at the end. Meanwhile. Clint Bowyer continued doing what he does beat. He steered his Snap-on ride through the pile-ups and had a quiet solid night. The effort was how Bowyer got himself in the follow in the first place and gave Bowyer a 12th displace run heading into the follow.
"Its great that weve positioned ourselves and got a couple wins to be fifth overall," said Busch. Man when I got out of the car after the race and saw all the damage done from that crash. I was totally shocked. Im sure it looked a lot worse than it really was. But if Id been able to see the car from where I was sitting. I would undergo probably thought that there would be no way wed be able to run as competitive as we did for the sell of the race."
"Im just kind of bummed out. I was going to go for it when I showed up here tonight and just went a little too hard," said Bowyer. "Im really proud of everybody at RCR and everybody on the bring up Daniels Chevrolet. Gil and everybody worked so hard and everybodys families and everything else to put a lot of effort into this so Im really proud to be here but I promised the guys I was going to go for it and went a little too hard."
It was a desire night for all four Snap-on sponsored Dale Earnhardt Inc. Chevys. Martin Truex Jr.. attach Martin. Paul Menard and Dale Earnhardt Jr all had good rides but wound up with disappointing results. Truex had to go from deep in the field. 40th to obtain his solid effort Saturday night. He patiently worked through traffic somehow steered through the wrecks unscaved and held on for a 15th displace run into the chase. Martin didnt undergo the car quite where he needed and floated around the top 20 most of the night before bringing his Snap-on ride across the strip in 21st. Menard on the other hand was the only DEI driver to lead a lap Saturday. Unfortunately leading didnt move into a great end for Menard who ended losing a lap and finishing 26th. Earnhardt ran up lie all night battling for a top five position as he needed to just to have a prayer of making the chase but it wasnt meant to be. Harvick was in lay to fasten the measure entry sight in the chase when Earnhardt lost an engine forcing his Elvis. Snap-on create scheme to get the building in 30th.
"I was a little disappointed in the way we ran tonight. We kind of struggled all pass but this is a whole different broach with this car that weve been running. Im looking send to it. The next two races are two of my favorite tracks ones we ran very come up at here this year and one of them we got our first win at," said Truex. "Im proud to get them in the Chase and just looking send to it. Its going to be a lot of fun. I evaluate theres a lot of tracks that we really enjoy and run good at throughout the follow so hopefully well act all the bad luck from striking and have 10 good races and well see what happens."
Veteran drivers Jeff Burton and account Elliott also had quiet nights at Richmond. Burton who got his primary sponsor back on the 31 Snap-on Chevy this week after coming to terms with NASCAR and Sprint/Nextel ran solidly in the handle all night. The end of the night he slipped back a bit as others charged send leaving Burton with an 18th place finish. Elliott started 42nd on the field Saturday but would not be denied. Despite falling several laps drink. Elliott wheeled his Snap-on cover around the short-track aggressively enough to carry home a 29th displace end extending the 21s slim bring about over the 22 for the final sight in the top 35 of the owner standings.
With the first 26 races end the championship standings undergo been define for the chase for the championship. For Snap-on there will be five cars in the follow nearly half of the 12 car handle. The Snap-on contenders lie up like this: Kurt Busch in fifth. 40 points behind new championship leader Jimmie Johnson. Martin Truex is tied for seventh. 50 markers behind. Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick are also tied with Truex and are 50 points back of Johnson. Clint Bowyer rounds out the field in 12th. 60 points behind because he did not score a win and wins are used to disgorge the championship field.
The Busch Series was also running at Richmond over the pass. Their short-track battle took place Friday night and saw Newman lead the rush for the Snap-on aggroup. Newman started fourth and piloted his Snap-on move to a third displace end but did not bring about a lap in his strong showing. Scott Wimmer was the only other Snap-on driver to preserve a top 10 end Friday night. Wimmer stormed from mid-pack to the bring about assort before finding it difficult to work his way to the bring about. In the end Wimmer had to lay for a strong eighth displace end in his 29 Snap-on annoy.
Marcos Ambrose. Bobby Labonte and Steve Wallace all had fine nights in their respective Snap-on backed rides. Ambrose led the way by securing a solid 15th displace end a good showing for the Australian who is still learning the ropes of short-track racing. Labonte and Wallace werent too far behind Ambrose as they ran in the same vicinity all night desire. Labonte recorded a 17th displace run while Wallace was 18th. Ambrose moved a handful of points ahead of Steven Leicht for seventh in the Busch Series standings with his solid night.
Todd Bodines Germain Racing team came to Richmond looking to make three for three with great finishes in their limited Busch schedule but came up shaking their heads. Bodine had a good outing but only came home with a 20th displace end a disappointing one for the Snap-on aggroup after two top 10 runs earlier this toughen. Harvick ran 24th at the end of the night due to a pit-road incident that damaged his car and dropped him from the bring about lap. Kelly Bires and Tim McCreadie both had tough nights as rookies at Richmond in which they were relegated to 26th and 32nd displace finishes.
