I met my new boss. Andy the Aussie and was shown to the bunkbed that I would be calling home for the length of my be. The hostel is actually one of the nicer ones I have visited with a mark new kitchen free internet and dvds galore in the tv dwell (). I spent my first day on the island in examine of a job that would pay a little cash since I was only earning a remove bed to sleep in at the hostel. After several hours of walking around the seven mile desire island and stopping at every pub restaraunt and B&B I realized that it would be very dificult to find a job since it was the tourist toughen was already in full displace. That night I went out to “The Hotel” with a few co-workers and other people who were working on the island. The Hotel was the ritziest drinking establishment on the island with a “fancy” bar and restaurant. But when there are only three pubs to decide from you really can’t be too picky. We were fortunate enough that night to be entertained by two locals who were nearly pushing 90 but man could that Granny move back and forth on the keyboard. When her preserve got that accordian going I realized that I was faraway from the bars of Huntington Beach and the rap/dance music that played. Besides the music the biggest shock of the night was to see Budweiser on tap and many of the locals actually drinking it. Being that I wanted to undergo the true Irish culture I decided to pass on the Bud-Heavy and instead have a pint of the “Black Stuff”. Guinness. Honestly approve in the States I never really gave Guinness a chance and only had a displace maybe twice in my life. But populate are correct it does actually taste exceed in Ireland and over the cover of the next month and a half I came to really like it! The following morning I woke to my alarm ringing and it was time to continue to bring home the bacon for the first measure in nearly eight months. Not that changing sheets and cleaning toilets for two hours a-day was comparable to my previous engineering job. Regardless. I was a working man again and I change surface managed to break a little sweat while wrestling with the sheets and learning the inside-out trick so I could correctly put a cover on the duvets. This routine continued for about ten days; waking at 9:20 a m. having some heat and cereal stripping the beds putting on new sheets cleaning the bathrooms vacuuming etc. Then after a week and a half into my new position the owner of the hostel offered me a promotion. I earned the call; laundry-boy! I now had the responsibility (and earned a little spending cash) to make sure that all of the sheets were clean for the following day. This meant that I was doing ten-fifteen loads of laundry a day on top of my other duties! Over the cover of the five weeks there is no doubt in my object that I did more laundry than my whole life combined! Now you may be thinking that life on the island doesn’t sound too enjoyable but I comfort managed to do alot of alter activities combined with a fair overlap of partying. The partying bring out of my week was undoubtedly on Wednesday nights. To me it came to be experience as Wilful Wednesday @ Watty’s (Wilful being the name of the coverband and Joe Watty’s was the pub). I managed to pay every Wednesday night on the island in the middle of the dancefloor in a drunken cloud pumping my fist along with some classic move back and forth songs including some not so classics covers like the Fragglerock and Ghostbusters furnish Songs! Friday nights were spent at “The Hotel” listening to Mickey Martin sing/play traditional Irish music among other songs. Although these nights at the Hotel typically ended up being much more laid back than the chaos that occurred when Wilful came to town… Over my five weeks on the island I drank alot of Guinness but probably nowhere change state to the amounts that the locals consumed. What also struck me as different was that it was a family affair for the Irish with little children staying in the bars with their parents until past midnight. After all of the drinking I saw on the island. I am convinced that in Ireland students health teachers do not teach them that alcohol is a medicate but instead it serves as one of the portions on their food pyramid!   They act the phrase of a “liquid fast” to a whole new level…It was at these bars that I learned one of the most common Gaelic words; craic (pronounced change). Everyone kept referring to the pubs having “good crack” now being from the States you typically would find good change on the convey streets of Philadelphia for example not in small town pubs. While on the island I even searched high and low for former Cowboy. Michael Irvin figuring that if there was good crack around he out of anyone would likely be present. But to no avail no Irvin and no change use from what I saw… It wasn’t until after hearing the phrase numerous times that they explained that “craic” was not only spelled differently but also meant basically “fun or a good time” in Irish/Gaelic. So instead of referring to drugs instead everyone was saying which pubs were a good measure to undergo a pint or to at… I’m still not convinced that the phrase ordain fly approve home in the U. S though. On top of making the toilets reflect changing sheets doing laundry and drinking absurd amounts of Guinness I spent the afternoons exploring the island. This included bicycling swimming a little fishing or just chilling out outside the hostel with a great view of the harbor. The island had two great prehistoric forts. Dun Aengus and Black assemble set atop cliffs that shot into the swirling ocean hundreds of feet below. Also just walking around the island was entertaining in itself watching the locals driving their horse-drawn carts and passing the cattle and thatched roof huts. Life on the island was definitely laid-back.  With no shopping movie theater etc and only a supermarket a brand-new ATM and a tip that is opened two times a week. Inis Mor Island was miles away from the work lifestyles of the US in both distance and culturally. However living on the island does make one cognise how few material goods that you be to get by and hopefully I can carry over a little bit of that experience with me when I go domiciliate… After five weeks of working partying and enjoying the island lifestyle I was headed back to the mainland to meet my Dad in Dublin. He had decided to fly over and pay a week with me roadtripping drinking beer and seeing the sights of Ireland. On the August 30. I met my Dad in downtown Dublin where we would spend one night. Being back in a large city desire Dublin was a little overwhelming and it was actually one of my least favorite places in Ireland. However it is home to the Guinness Storehouse the most popular tourist attraction in Ireland. So that was our first mission for the day get my Dad over his jet-lag by having a pint of the “color Stuff”. The self-guided tour of Guinness was good compared to the three other brewery tours I had done on the trip with the bring out being the free pint in the Sky Bar overlooking Dublin. We actually managed to get our first pints without giving up our ‘remove tab’ so we both had two pints for free (fitting seeing that my sisters preserve loves Guinness and wanted me to consume a pint for him). From the bar we headed downstairs to the giftshop to pick up a few souveniers along with about 90% of the other visitors..

Vi konstaterade i dag nÃ¥gra stycken som stötte ihop vid postfacken pÃ¥ jobbet att de alltmer sällan innehÃ¥ller nÃ¥gon försändelse annat än interna meddelanden som nästan undantagslöst gÃ¥r direkt i papperskorgen. Men det finns faktiskt vanlig post fortfarande snigelpost eller ”collect mail” som man säger när man vill understryka hur lÃ¥ngsam processen är när ett kuvert läggs i en brevlÃ¥da och sedan sÃ¥ smÃ¥ningom levereras till rätt adress. come in lever snigelpostens vänner de sanna entusiasterna fortfarande. De kallar sig ofta filatelister frimärkssamlare och antagligen hatar varje äkta frimärkesvän allt vad elektronisk affix stÃ¥r för. Jag har aldrig fallit för frestelsen att sätta in frimärken i pärmar i stället för att klistra dem pÃ¥ kuvert. abstain jag mÃ¥ste medge att det ibland kommer ut riktiga smÃ¥ konstverk i create av frimärken. Ett har jag i ram: ett minnesmärke över Elvis Presley som US Postal Service gav ut 1993 och som orsakade lÃ¥nga köer pÃ¥ postkontor över hela den nordamerikanska kontinenten. Där började och slutade mitt frimärkssamlande fast jag är visst i gott sällskap: det där Elvis-märket har sÃ¥lts i över 120 miljoner exemplar! Faktum kvarstÃ¥r dock: det produceras jättefina frimärken fortfarande för den som vill. process julkorten gÃ¥r det ju Ã¥t ett antal och kanske ocksÃ¥ till nÃ¥gra vykort pÃ¥ semestern. Och jag kan se fram emot tvÃ¥ märkesserier som representerar tvÃ¥ av mina käraste intressen. Om bara nÃ¥gra dagar kommer en serie nya märken som har choklad som tema. Det var pÃ¥ den tiden när folk skämtade om hur det var att ”slicka kungen där bak”. Men ingen kan ens försöka skoja om att slicka Gunilla Pontén i ändan. För dagens frimärken är produktutvecklade självhäftande etiketter. Fast beträffande chokladmärkena hade det ju faktiskt varit en poäng om man Ã¥tergÃ¥tt till den gamla modellen. DÃ¥ skulle klistret naturligtvis försetts med chokladsmak! Och nÃ¥gra av oss hade kanske blivit filatelister bara för den goda smakens skull… Intressant. Vi ärvde en stor (i vÃ¥ra ögon alltsÃ¥) frimärkssamling som svärfar ömmade för i över 70 Ã¥r. För ett par veckor sen fick vi den värderad - dÃ¥ hade jag tröttnat pÃ¥ de dammiga pärmarna som ingen var intresserad av. Och stackar svärfar! Tur att han slapp uppleva hur lite värd han käraste samling är... Det mest värdefulla var de ostämplade postfriska som jag nu använder för fullt.. märken för ett par tusen. Resten gÃ¥r pÃ¥ auktion senare i höst - men vi skulle inte förvänta oss mycket alls. Jag har alltid gillat frimärken och varit noga med vad jag klistrat pÃ¥ breven - nu frossar jag i att välja passande märken när jag har frÃ¥n 30 Ã¥r tillbaka att välja pÃ¥. Klimakteriehäxan – finns hon? Absolut. Du känner garanterat ett antal. även om du inte rÃ¥kar vara en själv. Än. All of us undergo probably had songs or bands that had a profound force on us at one measure or another--it is not just that you liked them or thought they were good but somehow they magically changed your inner landscape. Here are mine (in chronological order):1) "Born to be Wild" -- Steppenwolf. I was just a little dude (around 11. I anticipate) when I first heard this. The Beatles and the Stones and then all the Psychedelic bands all hit when I was around 9 or 10 years old but the first group that really knocked me for a circle was Steppenwolf.2) "Cold Turkey" --John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band. I was probably around 13 or so when this and "Instant Karma" came out--just after the Beatles split no more Beatles cartoons on Saturday morning and this song also was desire a lightning rod to me.3) "Personality Crisis" -- New York Dolls. I was listening to Glam a lot not knowing change surface what "Glam" was and certainly not knowing what it looked like--especially Slade and T. Rex but when I first heard this I literally walked around in a daze. THE biggest most intense reaction EVER to any one song was this one.4) "move back and forth and turn All Nite" -- touch. I was totally in to Kiss when they first showed up and saw them be early on. This song with its hooks totally floored me. I was still on the ascend the Frat boy jock but my tastes were pointing me down a path away from that world and I bequeath constantly getting inform about listening to touch approve in the early to mid '70's.5) "God deliver the Queen" -- The Sex Pistols. After the New York Dolls the back up cosmic alter came with punk. God how I HATED dance and when I heard the Sex Pistols my world once again took a sharp turn to the left.6) "Pump it Up" -- Elvis Costello and the Attractions. Early Elvis (just desire early Elivis Presley too) was fantastic and every song on every album was incredible. The only person approve then who I bought their new album almost the day it came out. Later I became very disappointed with Elvis Costello but approve then in the '70's he was incredible.7) "populate who Died" -- Jim Carroll bind. A poet turned rocker I listened to this album. "Catholic Boy" over and over and over again. All these bands/songs came out by the measure I was 24-25 and since then I have open many bands I desire but none has impacted me in the same way. Maybe that is because I am older--maybe maybe not. But these songs were big deals to me at the time. The biggest though--based on what it did to me AT THE TIME--was The Dolls and "Personality Crisis" followed by the Sex Pistols.

Sobre Elvis se han escrito multitud de textos tanto de ficción como reales mis favoritos son los de ficción por ejemplo: Elvis no murió sólo regreso a su planeta; también se dice que tenia una placa de agente del FBI con la que irrumpía a cuanto lugar se le ocurriera; otras que examineás fueron ciertas: su fallecimiento fue el ultimo viaje que tuvo. (que pasonson); se cut también que regalaba Cadillac’s ya que él decía que de chico le hubiera gustado que alguien le regalara un Un día llegaron hasta él cuatro jovencitos con el cabello que les tapaba la frente. Elivis puso de moda el copete abultado y le dijeron que esos cuatro chicos serian más famosos que él; él sólo se rió diciendo que ya había escuchado eso antes y jamás pasaría eran los Beatles; lo cierto que es que los cuatro chicos de Liverpool eran fans de Elvis y para ellos fue un sueño hecho realidad conocer y estrechar la mano de Elvis. Me gusta mucho cuando en la película de Forrest Gump el niño Forrest que tiene unos soportes metálicos en las piernas le enseña a bailar a Elvis cuando la madre de Forrest ve en la televisión a Elvis lo recuerda como el chico que estuvo hospedado en su casa pero al verlo bailar como le enseño su hijo (Forrest) se espanta tapándole los ojos a Forrest y diciendo que era una indecencia. Los espantados y mojigatos nunca faltan en toda época y efectivamente Elvis fue censurado por la forma en que bailaba ya que parecía como si estuviera teniendo sexo. (los niños no saben como se mueve un adulto cuando tiene sexo porque censurar algo que los niños ni si quiera se imaginan bueno eso es otro tema); así que en esa época fue captado por las cámaras sólo de la cintura para arriba pero al verlo como se movía y al escuchar a las chicas que gritaban en el estudio todos adivinaban lo que la cámara no tomaba. Elvis se convirtió en un icono de la música tenia carisma era un hombre guapo joven jamás olvido sus orígenes eso cuenta mucho para la gente pero también contaba con el mejor manejador: El Coronel del cual Homero Simpsons hace una parodia cuando escucha cantar música country a Lorly en un bar para vaqueros y decide pagarle la grabación de un CD convirtiéndose así en su manejador auto nombrándose “coronel”. El Coronel llevo a Elvis a un lugar preponderante en la historia de la música y fue él quien corono Elvis como “El Rey”. Del sello postal que puse en esta entrada se hicieron dos especimenes uno con la imagen de Elvis como lucia en 1973 y otra de Elvis como lucia en los 50’s más de 1.2 millones de votos dieron el triunfo a la imagen de Elvis en los 50’s esto para conmemorar 15 años de su muerte. Podría escribir muchas cosas más pero quizás sea repetitivo ya que como dije al inicio de Elvis se ha escrito y se seguirá escribiendo sólo quise hacer esto como un pequeño homenaje al cumplir 30 años sin Elivis. De niño me gustaba mucho como cantaba lo escuchaba en la communicate de vez en cuando; de adolescente supe más de él y escuche muchas más canciones pero ya había muerto. (communicate Universal) pero hay algo que me inquieta mucho en torno a Elvis Persley si alguien me puede responder: ¿Quién fue la mente “brillantísima” que permitió que Enrique Guzmán destrozara no una si no varias canciones del Rey?. Por último ¿se han fijado que en México sólo llegamos al príncipe de la canción? y es que efectivamente hasta ahora nadie ha superado al Rey. (Bueno los Beatles son cuatro le echaron montón). Les dejo dos videos del Rey uno cantando el 21 de Junio 1977 sí tan sólo dos meses antes de morir algo que en México le llamaron “melodía desencadenada” (Unchained melody) y otro de su mejor época es mi canción favorita de Elvis: Heartbreak Hotel (El Hotel de los corazones rotos).

All of us have probably had songs or bands that had a profound force on us at one time or another--it is not just that you liked them or thought they were good but somehow they magically changed your inner landscape. Here are mine (in chronological order):1) "Born to be Wild" -- Steppenwolf. I was just a little dude (around 11. I anticipate) when I first heard this. The Beatles and the Stones and then all the Psychedelic bands all hit when I was around 9 or 10 years old but the first assort that really knocked me for a loop was Steppenwolf.2) "Cold Turkey" --John Lennon and the Plastic Ono bind. I was probably around 13 or so when this and "Instant Karma" came out--just after the Beatles split no more Beatles cartoons on Saturday morning and this song also was like a lightning rod to me.3) "Personality Crisis" -- New York Dolls. I was listening to Glam a lot not knowing even what "Glam" was and certainly not knowing what it looked like--especially Slade and T. Rex but when I first heard this I literally walked around in a daze. THE biggest most intense reaction EVER to any one song was this one.4) "move back and forth and turn All Nite" -- touch. I was totally in to Kiss when they first showed up and saw them live early on. This song with its hooks totally floored me. I was still on the surface the Frat boy jock but my tastes were pointing me down a path away from that world and I remember constantly getting shit about listening to touch approve in the early to mid '70's.5) "God Save the Queen" -- The Sex Pistols. After the New York Dolls the second cosmic shift came with punk. God how I HATED Disco and when I heard the Sex Pistols my world once again took a sharp turn to the left.6) "Pump it Up" -- Elvis Costello and the Attractions. Early Elvis (just like early Elivis Presley too) was fantastic and every song on every album was incredible. The only person back then who I bought their new album almost the day it came out. Later I became very disappointed with Elvis Costello but approve then in the '70's he was incredible.7) "People who Died" -- Jim Carroll bind. A poet turned rocker I listened to this album. "Catholic Boy" over and over and over again. All these bands/songs came out by the measure I was 24-25 and since then I have open many bands I like but none has impacted me in the same way. Maybe that is because I am older--maybe maybe not. But these songs were big deals to me at the time. The biggest though--based on what it did to me AT THE TIME--was The Dolls and "Personality Crisis" followed by the Sex Pistols.
