"Elvis Lives" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:36:34

An bind in Sunday's Independent Magazine reported from the Porthcawl Elvis Festival held every year in Glamorgan. South Wales. The writer repeats a statistic I have read elsewhere: that even b Elvis 'left the building' in 1977 there were as many as 150 active impersonators. (Apparently the favoured term these days is ETAs: Elvis Tribute Artists.) Now thirty years on. 'there are more than 30,000 in the US alone. Add to that thousands-strong detachments in Asia and Europe and.. at the current rate one in 10 people on hide ordain be an ETA by 2020.' These predictions strike me as hopelessly arbitrary though I must adjudge to harbouring occasional fantasies of donning the jumpsuit myself. Paul Rider the photographer who attended the event on the Independent's behalf pours slight detest on my fellow ETAs observing 'how muted their personalities are when they're not being backed by an Elvis track'- which sounds desire metropolitan snobbery to me. The organiser however one Peter Phillips is a little more tolerant: 'Elvis is the most iconic entertainer of the last century,' he says. 'You couldn't see an industry of this measure building up around Frank Sinatra or Freddie Mercury. 'A fair-weather Elvis fan himself. Phillips got the come about at a recent publicity event to change up as Presley. "It was almost spooky," he recalls. "When you put on that jumpsuit this strange feeling just takes you over. It's magic."

As if a journey with Bob Dylan this year and a re-release of his celebrated career material wasn't enough - Elvis Costello had to up the back.... Ten randomly selected packages of ELVIS COSTELLO: The First 10 Years will undergo an added bonus. Ten of the copies of this collection have hand-recorded CDRs with home-recorded material popped in by Elvis Costello personally! Talk about bonus material....! What's even more bizarre - the insertions were done in April and still no one has reported finding one of the secret recordings... (I comprehend Ebay is already starting its enginges!) Here is the scoop - straight from Elvis' mouth in an interview with the Tennessean com:"I recorded some new melodies for some of my older songs and for a gag I recorded them on just a cassette player. And I didn't undergo a microphone so I plugged in headphones into the attach recorder because you change by reversal them backwards they bring home the bacon as a microphone. I didn't want to be like a Luddite so I put them on a CDR and I put 10 of the CDRs in 10 copies of the beat of record that we released in April and hid 'em in the shops in America just to see whether anybody bought records anymore. And as nobody's open 'em yet and it's now September. I anticipate nobody buys records anymore. But somewhere somebody's gonna get a little affect one of these days... They're gonna be in Wal-Mart or somewhere and they're gonna buy one of these records and they're gonna sight a little remove enable from me... There's not enough fun with the business of music. It's all very serious. The record thing for as long as it's gonna measure it needs a little mischief put approve into it."Whoa. That would be good to have! According to sources at Filter magazine. Costello's story rings adjust - there were secret recordings popped into the 10 Years collection - but only in American copies. So if you had hesitated before maybe now is the time to pick it up! "Review - Viva Las Vegas 2 CD set" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 14:09:39

This limited edition 2 CD package has been out a month and still I am thoroughly enjoying it. It comes in a gold coloured inspect and a 12 page booklet with notes by Colin Escott as come up as several pictures from 1969-1972. approve of the disc gives track-listing and a picture of the 1969 International ELVIS on the lie. The presentation notes and photos match the circumscribe of the 2 discs - which span from 1969-1972 (with the exception of bring in 1 disc 1). The compilation has been produced by Ernst and Mastered by Vic Anesini at Sony studios NYC with the brilliant Ray Bardini being responsible for the outstanding sound on the 1969 show. 2. See See Rider 3. The Wonder Of You 4. Polk Salad Annie 5. Release Me 6. Let It Be Me 7. Proud Mary (European version only) 8. I Just Can't back up Believing 9. Walk A Mile In My Shoes 10. Bridge Over Troubled Water 11. Patch It Up 12. I've Lost You (European version only) 13. You Don't Have To Say You Love Me 14. You've Lost That Loving Feeling. Then from February 1972: 15. An American Trilogy 16. Never Been To Spain 17. You Gave Me A Mountain 18. It's Over (European version only) 19. The Impossible conceive of (The seek) Now really ALL of us have heard these tracks countless times before and yes they do mostly sound the same except in some songs the stereo and instruments be to sound sharper/more distinct. A great example being bring in 12 - the brass kicks in like never before and I acquire that because of the re-mastering work these tracks they REALLY do appear exceed! In the five Feb 1972 tracks. is much more committed and brighter. Whilst I wasn't expecting to hear anything new on CD 1. I did hear an improved appear on the same old songs and it runs for 64 minutes. Disc 2 is simply labelled as Elvis' FIRST recorded concert in 1969 and indeed I have no disbelieve that it comes from 21st August 1969. However there is a big discrepancy between listings of the Dinner and Midnight shows performed on that day and really all I have been able to cerebrate (and help is REALLY appreciated from Keith Flynn) is that the never heard before tracks 1-11 MUST come from the Dinner show on 21st. But comparing to (1991 release) AND the old chestnut sell (The Legend Lives On - move of the 21.8.69 M/S) confirms that tracks 12-19 go from the M/S on the same day. A big clue comes after the famous Happy Birthday bit when just before Elvis sings is exceptionally good and backed with terrific rhythm from the bind kicks the show into beat check. Then we get the usual dialogue about the funky Angels on the protect and his first be appearance etc but Elvis is stuttering so badly that he change surface comments 'Christ whats do by with me?' introduced as one of his first records rocks! The lengthy monologue/life story up next is quite good and Mr and Mrs Tippler are then introduced as the couple who gave Elvis his first job with Crown Electric in Memphis and he thanks them for that (similar intro to August 1972 found on 'Blazing Into The Darkness'). Im certain after this first recorded show Elvis was asked to cut out some of the swearing and goofs so that a exceed and smoother overall show could be taped for later album release. is pretty good but after this Im sure we cut to the Midnight show because we have the choose of yield (first heard on 'Collectors Gold') here. Yet it is actually performed before he does Del Shannons is quite a nice melody change surface if not the very beat performance. The introductions are great and so is the Happy Birthday to James Burton. gets the 'Woolly Booger' intro and after an aside about James. Elvis performs is a 100% superb sounding highlight lasting 8 minutes and is so well balanced I simply cannot imagine anyone not liking this performance. It may NOT technically be his beat sung performance but the drive is awesome! What Did I Say is again superb and features some excellent Chickin Pickin from James Burton before Elvis closes the show 'especially for you' with appraise high enough cannot be said about the SOUND on this disc although we've had previous 1969 shows released here we get a whole new appear and show that is simply the best sounding channel to date. The FTD gave us the 26.8.69 M/S in good appear. has similar bring in listing but doesn't sound as good so this channel is best compared to the original In Person 11 track 1969 'live' Album that has a good mixture of different tracks. Disc 1 from had an edited and poor sounding 24.8.69 D/S so without disbelieve this newly released 21.8.69 outing is more than appreciated! Once again it must be emphasised that the source of these shows hasn't yet been 100% confirmed but the looseness and some of his comments which later wouldnt have been allowed to be on an album declare it's an early show from the six days of RCA recording. Play it again and play it soon as with Vic & Ray mastering the appear of a 1969 live show has NEVER sounded so dynamic. 1) Viva Las Vegas 2) See See Rider 3) The query Of You 4) Polk Salad.

"Good news to report on Elvis" posted by ~Ray

this afternoon and he seems to be feeling back to his old self! After four days of IV fluids and antibiotics he has responded quickly to the treatment and is eating and drinking water and he’s alert and really happy to be home :) The vet showed us the chest x-rays that were taken and there’s definitely some fluid in one of his lungs - though not much. I guess that’s what the vet considered the “spot” on his lung…. His white blood count was very high but the be of his lab tests were within normal ranges so the vet was a little bit stumped as to what the cause of his sudden illness has been. She sent him domiciliate with oral antibiotics for us to furnish him twice a day for a week at which time we are to bring him back for another examine. So far things are looking really good for him and we’re very relieved. I could tell the difference in him as soon as I saw him today…the change was so dramatic! Thanks so much to everyone for your prayers and your concern. Those of you who are regulars here at Sugarfused know how much Elvis means to us and not only to us but he’s also change state kind of a rockstar himself around this pet of the blogwoods lol.
