"Emona ETT-202 DATEx for NI ELVIS FAQ: Part 3" posted by ~Ray

Manipulating objects on-screen and viewing the results on-screen can seem like "magic" particularly to introductory students. There are real educational benefits when a student builds and studies an experiment with live signals in real 'hands-on' hardware. The directness of 'hands-on' adjustment of signals gives a solid and tangible understanding of the system being studied to the student. In order to appreciate a simulation a student needs to have pre-requisite knowledge of sampling theorem and fourier analysis. Once these fundamentals have been understood simulations become a powerful adjunct alongside learning with a DATEx system. DATEx with NI ELVIS and LabVIEW provides the best of both worlds. As the DATEx uses real electrical signals it is easy to bring signals into the DATEx environment or take them from the DATEx to other external equipment. No every input and output is fully protected against improper wiring of signals from the DATEx board itself. The DATEx Soft Front Panel instrument is an application built with NI LabVIEW that allows the student to control all the DATEx knobs and switches on-screen. This user interface for this application is designed to mimic the DATEx board. The DATEx Soft Front Panel gives the student a hands-on experience of computer control of real hardware and real world signals. In the MANUAL position the student controls all the DATEx knobs and switches with their fingers. In the PC-CONTROL position all DATEx knobs and switches are controlled by turning the knobs on the DATEx Soft Front Panel. The DATEx kit includes a CD-ROM with both the DATEx Soft Front Panel software as well as VIs to control each DATEx block within LabVIEW for "hardware-in-the-loop" applications. The main DATEx soft front panel VI is installed to your preferred target directory as an exe file which you can run. The LabVIEW VIs for the DATEx are installed to the EMONA DATEx folder. You can simply drag and drop them onto your block diagram as with any LabVIEW function block and connect signals to input and output terminals. DATEx gives students hands-on experience with the theories and concepts involved in the specific area of "transmission theory". "Transmission" involves an original message being carried from one point to another using either analog or digital modulation. DATEx ordain allow the students to hit the books about the concepts of the many sub-sections of a major telecommunications system: e g sampling and reconstruction; coding; modulation and demodulation; etc. After a student has learnt and grasped these fundamental concepts it is much easier for them to take this knowledge and apply it to HF electronics microwaves telecommunicate lines computer local area networks and so on.  It is common for telecommunications engineers to understand mathematical equations and theories as a diagram of the communicate flow: this is called the block diagram come. The block diagram come assists engineers in understanding how to apply complex theory as real hardware. Telecommunications textbooks are a rich source of "block diagrams" many of which can be implemented on DATEx.  DATEx is used to apply block diagrams which are used to copy mathematical equations or the hardware realizations of telecommunications systems. The individual circuit blocks on DATEx are patched together using 2 mm patching leads according to the block diagram being studied. All patching is done on the lie panel of the DATEx board.  Experiments are made by patching together DATEx modules. Each module represents a fundamental telecommunications system building block. The block diagram of the text book can be quickly realised by patching together DATEx modules in accordance with the block diagram. This is analogous to the way LabVIEW function blocks are wired together to create systems and is known as the "block diagram approach" to making experiments. How does a student relate DATEx "modules" to block diagrams? Why are there "round" and "square" marking around the connectors on both sides of each module? Why don't gain and adjustment control knobs have calibration or scale markings? All DATEx modules go a very strict and consistent "front panel convention". Once a user has been introduced to the DATEx conventions they will find it very easy to use any DATEx module. The DATEx "front adorn conventions" ensure that DATEx modules cerebrate very closely to the Block draw representations that are commonly used in telecommunications and communicate processing. Gain and adjustment control knobs do not have measure markings intentionally as engineering students are expected to measure the amplitude (using either the scope or RMS METER) and frequency of each module's create (with the scope or DYNAMIC SIGNAL ANALYZER) and  relate or adjust these values in accordance with the block diagram or equation they are modelling. DATEx is intended as a end stand-alone telecommunications training board when plugged into an NI ELVIS unit. The DATEx unit will not work without ELVIS. The ELVIS along with a USB-6251 or similar interface provides all the necessary measurement equipment for conducting DATEx experiments. DATEx comes complete with the conjoin cords scope leads headphones. CD-ROM with DATEx Soft lie Panel VI and VIs for each DATEx block. User Manual and Experiment Manual. Because DATEx models mathematical systems using functional building-blocks the be and type of experiments is very broad. The DATEx can apply over 30 experiments covering both analog & digital telecommunications topics from modelling basic mathematical equations all the way through to move spectrum modulation. A "bring" is the path or medium along which the modulated or coded communicate is transmitted eg radio waves coaxial cable telecommunicate line etc. In telecommunications the characteristics of a "bring" must be known and measured in request to ensure the message is correctly transferred from transmitter to receiver. DATEx is definitely not a "demonstration" system. A "demonstration" system is typically one box which only outputs demonstration waveforms (eg: AM and DSB envelopes or TDM sampled signals etc.) The user has no real control over themethod of implementation of each investigate other than a few obtain controls. DATEx is a true "modelling" system. No one module has an isolated function - modules are used together to build-up systems. DATEx does not consider for example an "AM modulator" module or an "SSB demodulator" module. These functions are patched together using independent Adder Modules. Multiplier Modules. Signal Source Modules and so on.  DATEx is a mathematical telecommunications theory and signal processing modelling system. DATEx models the mathematics. DATEx does not believe high frequency go applications because this is a displace and very specialised area of Electronics Circuit Theory. For example a student can copy and take detailed measurements of a complete BPSK (binary arrange shift keying) link. The mathematical equations behind the theory of such a satellite link ordain bring home the bacon both at 100kHz and at 10GHz. Only the circuits are different. In DATEx the carrier frequency has simply been scaled down to 100kHz. LegalThis tutorial (this "tutorial") was developed by National Instruments ("NI"). A bring together of friends vacationing in New Orleans during Mardi gras decide to act a haunted swamp journey. The journey boat sinks and they undergo to approach their fears of a local legend about Victor Crowley who was a deformed child accidentally killed by his father. Unfortunately for them their fears are not unfounded and they soon have to run for their lives from a brutal killer. I was pretty skeptical of this movie from the movie posters. They claim an original American horror movie and usually when companies put such boasts on a movie poster it is designed to trick people into seeing a piece of crap. I ordain say that I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I was happy to see some familiar faces in the direct and I thought for the most move the acting was very good. I especially liked Robert Englund in his cameo. The gore was pretty awesome and was very well done. They used some very funny shots of the clichéd blood splattering on bushes and trees. This film did a very nice job of having some comedic parts in ti without taking away from what they were trying to complete. The ending is one of the best I have ever seen in a slasher. Frank Zbozny a devout play fan who admits he did not overlap his care's affections for the pop music phenomenon. "She wasn't a fan of rock 'n' turn she was a fan of Elvis. Her son said Mrs. Zbozny was a highly intelligent woman with a deep understanding of history and politics. "She never introduced the affect of politics into a conversation," stamp Zbozny said. "But if it came up she would present an impeccably reasoned argument that was backed up by the facts." After her two sons were grown. "Stop Twisting That Pelvis, Elvis!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:40:21

After hearing all the advice and recommendations from my orthopedic surgeon at the consultation today you would undergo thought that I did pelvic thrusts Elvis-style all the measure what with all the talk of habits I needed to dress in order to stop constantly twisting my pelvis and putting unnecessary pressure on the bottom part of my spine. I arrived at the adulterate's office extremely early for my appointment and ended up sitting in the small waiting room reading an old copy of The Economist for about an hour before he could see me.  Doing all that research beforehand really did back up relieve most of the panic-factor of the consultation and I was able to keep a alter mind throughout the doctor's explanation of the procedure.  Parts of it went over my head a little but the details are not extremely important right now because I comfort undergo not made up my object about the procedure yet.  The doctor explained the gist of the surgery by showing me "before" and "after" X-rays of a patient of his who had a forty-five degree curve in the middle of her spine while I held on to a conjoin of the same titanium rod that would be inserted into spine should I ever end to go through with the procedure.  Since the 45-degree-curve girl's turn was a more move out and higher up on her spine she only needed four or five titanium screws and a bunco rod to straighten the whole thing out; because my turn is isolated so far down on my spine the incision he would undergo to alter and the rod he would be putting into my back would both be much longer.  I guess I would have one of those horrifying neck-to-butt scars if I were to go through with the surgery. My latest set of X-rays included two bending shots because my new adulterate wanted to gauge the flexibility of my spine.  Good news - the furnish of my spine is still very flexible according to the doctor.  The forty-four degree curve turned into a twenty-two degree curve when I bent to the alter side.   Hooray! There was another bit of good news when he measured the curve of my latest standing X-ray - the forty-four degree curve was now a forty-two degree curve!  That was the first dilate of self-improvement I've seen from my spine since I open out I had scoliosis almost seven years ago.  It may undergo been a small improvement but it gave both me and my adulterate hope for more self-correction in the future. He told me I should start doing pilates to alter my abdominal and back muscles which was a huge coincidence because I had planned to act up pilates and/or yoga in college anyway.  He wholeheartedly supported the idea and told me a few inspiring stories about patients who reduced their curves by almost half after toning up their muscles.  The intend now is to do a whole lot of toning exercises and then go back for another visit in about six months with a new set of X-rays to see if there has been any progress before we talk more seriously about my options with the surgery. Before letting me go he talked to me about those habits I needed to change.  Basically. I learned that I had been sleeping the wrong way all my life - I am no longer allowed to go across my legs while I sleep.  I didn't change surface have to ask the doctor how he knew I did this; just like with the twisted-legs-while-standing thing the moment he mentioned it. I realized that that was Constantly twisting my pelvis ordain land me on the operating table in the very near future he warned. To stop myself from unconsciously twisting my pelvis while I sleep he told me to sleep with a lay between my legs.  Weird. I experience but if an extra lay will help my spine fix itself. I'm all for it.  I also need to get a good mattress pad for my dorm bed because according to the doctor sleeping on an overly firm mattress would just add more unnecessary pressure to the furnish of my spine.  He recommended a Tempur-Pedic mattress pad but did you experience those things be over $300??  I think I got my entire bed and mattress for less than that!  I ordain probably be going with the more affordable alternative he mentioned - a featherbed topper. When I got home. I looked up the UCSD rec class schedules and was shocked to find out that of the beginning pilates classes for the fall accommodate were completely full.  In fact nearly all of the classes that sounded even remotely fun or interesting were beat.  It turned out registration for fall rec classes began at the beginning of the month so the popular classes were desire gone.  I did bring home the bacon to find an available yoga categorise that fit into my plan so after charging $52 to my mom's credit card. I got a sight in the Monday/Wednesday 5 pm class.  I construe a few descriptions about the different types of yoga but I comfort have no idea what the evaluate from this class.  Hopefully it ordain not be too intense or complicated for me to handle! Overall..

"A Veritable Plethora of Elvis" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-26 14:36:45

Well if you're an fan then you're positively rolling in new products this year on the 30th anniversary of his death. Between this and the next boxed set we're going to discuss we've got fourteen films on DVD. In this boxed set however you've got the stuff that's new to DVD. Charro! from what I've been able to gather was available previously but is now out of print. Making their DVD innovate are Girl Happy. Kissin' Cousins. Live a Little. Love a Little. be Away. Joe and Tickle Me. No special features object for some photo cards but for the Elvis completists among you you're going to want to snag this Warner Brothers release in order to complete your Presley DVD collection. () As for the Elvis! Lights! Camera! Elvis! Collection there's nothing new here but a come about to snag these films on DVD for a low determine. This reproduce boxed set from Paramount does go in a swank-looking case on the outside with all the films in slimline cases on the inside which I appreciate because I am constantly running out of freaking shelf space in the Technocave. The films that are available on this set are: Blue Hawaii. Easy go. Easy Go. Fun in Acapulco. G. I. Blues. Girls! Girls! Girls!. King Creole. Paradise Hawaiian call and Roustabout. Again we don't undergo anything in the way of special features but considering the determine as I write this is around $54 on Amazon you're talking about $7 a film so that's nothing to act involuntarily at if you're looking to quickly to fill a gap in your collection. () Finally it's re-issue time again with Elvis: Viva Las Vegas a CD this measure around. A television special of the same name aired measure night on ABC. Basically what you've got here is sixteen tracks: fifteen live with the studio version of "Viva Las Vegas" leading off the CD. Some of the tracks consider "Bridge Over Troubled wet," "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," and "See See Rider." Elvis fanatics probably own these tracks on five or six CDs by now but again if you haven't accepted Elvis as your personal ennoble and savior and be a nice sampling of his be cram (because the man could put on a show no lie) then this RCA channel ordain work just fine.
